My School Life
My Hobbies and Interests
I entered Chung Yun Kindergarten 崇仁幼稚園 in 1975 and studied in St Anthony's School 聖安多尼學校 for my primary education.
My secondary school life was developed in King's College. I have participated in various extracurricular activities, such as scout, physics society and music association, etc.
My experience related to accounting went back to my age of about ten, when my mother prepared the accounts of my father's business and I looked at what she was doing. My mother is good at Mathematics in her primary education. However, circumstances could not let her continue her education and she took evening courses in secondary schools. Book-keeping was what she had learnt at that time.
I wonder I was born to continue my mother's studies on the field of accounting. I took Principles of Accounts in Secondary 3 and took the HKCEE and LCCI exams. In Secondary 6, I entered Maths Stream and realized that I'd better take what I was good at. So I have chosen accounting as my first preference in tertiary studies.
I entered the then City Polytechnic of Hong Kong, now the City University of Hong Kong and studied the BA (Hons) in Accountancy.
I am going to study the Master of Arts in Information Systems, also in CityU.
In my childhood, I like to play Lego. I could develop my design skills and imagination through building blocks of structures, and developing stories through the Lego characters.
I also liked to construct electronic kits. I had set up a small radio station through my wireless microphone during one of our school picnic. Yuk said, "At that time (in Form 2), I couldn't imagine how the small stuff can transmit out radio signals. We studied wave only from Form 3."
My mother started collecting stamps in 1960s. I continued her collection and collected not only stamps but also MTR (underground train) tickets, phonecards and some other less common collectibles - toothsticks from resturants, chopsticks bags, etc. Actually, I collect everything! (And now I started to collect Coke stuff.)
I also collect audio discs (the LPs in the old days and CDs now). I like to listen to local pop music. My favourite singers include Vivian Lai (see also here), Cass Phang and Winnie Lau, whose every disc is part of my collectibles, but my "idol" is Priscilla Chan. Not only is her voice great but her attitutes towards life also enlighted me a lot. Her saying that I frequently quote is:
"To cherish everyone around you. It might be late if you know the importance of him/her after he/she has left."
-- Priscilla Chan 陳慧嫻 《千千闕歌》
I think that what Priscilla means by "everyone" includes both your friends and your enemies. You can certainly learn from your good friends but you can also prevent yourself from following the weaknesses of your enemies.
My nickname in my secondary school life is "frog". The colour I like is green and therefore I also like Kerokerokeroppi, the Sanrio frog character. I also like cleanliness and environmental protection, although I have not clear up my desk for a long time and do little thing to protect the environment. I will try my best in the near future!
The comics I like most are "Black Jack" by Tezuka Osamu and McMug.
My name "Clement" can summarize what my character is. "Clement" means "(formal) showing mercy; (of the weather, a person's temper) mild". I am a quiet person, but if you know me well I can have a lot of ideas to discuss with you.
I have been more active than before since my tertiary studies. I like everything neatly and so I took up the job of Class Representative to make our notes more neatly, correctly and timely distributed to my classmates. I have also tried some efforts to express their opinions to the authorities. Although not all of the opinions were accepted by them, the results were at least satisfactory. I became less mercy and mild-tempered when facing the bureaucrats, and now when at work because of my job nature.
I also like to share my knowledge with others. In the polytechnic my classmates always asked me questions on the studies. I always welcomed these questions (usually questions I have not thinked of before) and from which I can learn a lot more. I have put the information about accounting that I have gathered in the AF Dragon Home Page, and what I have learnt from volunteer work in the Yunn Fai Association Home Page.
I started to learn computer after my Form 5 study. My family bought an XT 8088 PC with 640k RAM and later added a 30Mb hard disk. I learned GW-BASIC programming at that time. The XT was replaced by a 386-SX later. One year ago I bought a new 486 DX2-66 and the 386-SX was given to my little cousin to learn computer. The 486 has 8M RAM, a 420Mb hard disk and a 2x CD-ROM drive.
Now, my computer has been upgraded to Pentium 133 with 32M RAM and 1.6G hard disk. I have a Mustek flatbed scanner and a Epson Stylus Photo printer.
My Internet life started when I was in polytechnic. At that time only text mode browsers and shell accounts were provided. After graduation, I joined Internet Online Hong Kong because it was the most inexpensive among the three ISPs at that time. After the net crisis in March 1995 when I have lost several e-mails, I opened a back up account under the PolyLink System of the City University of Hong Kong. I know that backing up information is most important.
